Travel Clinic

As part of their educational experience many students elect to travel abroad. Traveling in certain areas of the world may carry certain health risks. The Travel Clinic is a resource for students to utilize before and after traveling abroad.

The Travel Clinic works closely with the Physical Exam Section to arrange completion of any required pre-travel or pre-participatory physical examinations.

When scheduling your Travel Clinic appointment, you must advise the Appointment Clerk if you need to have a travel physical form or other paperwork completed.

With a known itinerary, the staff of the Travel Clinic can review the most recent health threat risk assessment issued by the Centers for Disease Control and assist the student in preparation for travel by providing them information on how to reduce their risks of health threats and, in many cases, providing prophylactic immunizations and medications.

The following immunizations are generally available at the Student Health Center*:

  • Hepatitis A – Havrix – $53.00
  • Hepatitis B – Engerix – Adult doses – $60.00
  • Meningitis (Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine) – Menquadfi – $180.00
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella Vaccine) – $101.00
  • Rabies – $378.00
  • Td (Tetanus/Diphtheria) – $44.00
  • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) – Adacel – $47.00
  • Typhoid – (injectable only) – $131.00

*The availability of some immunizations may at times be limited due to supply constraints beyond our control. Prices are effective as of 19 Dec 2023 and are subject to change without notice.

If an immunization you need is not listed above, then it is not available through the Student Health Center. However, it may be available through other local resources such as the Student Health Center Pharmacy, other retail pharmacies, or the Knox County Health Department. For instance, the Japanese Encephalitis and Yellow Fever vaccines are available through the Knox County Health Department (865-215-5071).

If there is an immunization you are required to have but it is not listed above, contact a Health Center Nurse at 865-974-5080 to discuss an alternative resource.
